words come faster when i'm not feeling tired and the rest of the world is asleep
the head gets louder when i'm quiet
and the heart gets scared to dream

the sun goes down and i'm feeling like me
got the rest of the night to walk through down
pass the cemetary where one day i'll be

the moon is full and it's making me crazy
twisting the thoughts in my head
disconnected from the rest of you
you'll probably fell better when i do

you can't lean on me to be happy
but you can put your head on my chest
you can't depend on me to be happy

baby i need the rest
baby i need some rest

The Live Music Scene

We've been spending lots of time at the Tuckasegee Tavern playing music with friends, and the occasional game of pool. It's been great. Formerly Across the Trax, the tavern reopened this year under new ownership. The plan is to make music the focus. There are a lot of great musicians in Bryson City and this is a good place to not only hear them, but to get to know them. I have played there and have been well received every time, by the tavern staff and customers.

A nice little impromptu jam with Will and Kim.

This was a practice while the bar was closed. Aj on drums, Will in motion on electric and Kerby joined us using my guitar.....haha.

Takin' a smoke break. This pic shows the new Tavern sign handpainted by the talented, Frank Lee

My favorite place to be, in fromt of the microphone.

Aj having a laugh on the deck.

Me and my sis, who joined me on stage during her visit to NC.

Now that I've shown ya the good stuff, it's time to vent. When did $5 become too much to see good music? I recently worked the door for an amazing band, Big House Radio. I couldn't believe how many people threatened to turn around and go home because there was a cover charge. $5 is less than one mixed drink. You'll pay more than that in gas driving around to find something else to do.  Are there that many people out there who don't like music or don't like paying bands to play for them? This is not just a problem at the Tuckasegee Tavern. My friend Ben Wiggins recently opened an awesome bar in Asheville, NC called Altamont Brewing Company. He has threatened to stop having music on Fridays and Saturdays for the same reason. No one wants to pay a cover and without a cover charge new bars don't have the income to pay what some of these bands are asking. This is disheartening. I needed to get this out there. What's the next step? I want to continue making music for a living. I want venues to keep hiring bands.....

My tip jar is always open. Tip jars are good, it's like a voluntary cover charge. You like what I do? You're having a good time? Put your $ in the bucket.

A Day at Humanité

This is what I had on when I showed up for my day job today. Comfy jeans and a tank. Pretty simple. But working at Humanité is like having an alter-ego for me. I love art and love how fashion can sometimes be art itself. On slow days I enjoy getting a chance to try things on. Outfits that I wouldn't normally wear. It not only helps me sell these items later, it gives me a chance to step outside my box. Here are some pictures of today's trying on adventures.

This is a cute tube dress, and actually turned out to be one of my favorites. No jewelry, no make-up, just a cute dress with a simple pair of sandals. I love it!
(Eye to the Future Dress $69.00, Everyday & Forever Sandal $28.00)

This is the other of my favorites. Erin, the owner of Humanité, must have known I would like it. She named it after my blog! This dress is awesomely colorful and has the cutest cutouts on the bottom and front center. I like these braided sandals more than any shoe we've carried. They look just as cute with jeans as they do with this dress.
(Used Muses Dress $64, Braided Folklore Sandal $53.00)

Here are the sandals again, this time paired up with this cute coral dress. All I'm missing is a choice piece of jewelry. Erin said this was her favorite on me.
(Wildflower Dress $52)

I couldn't just jump right back into my jeans without seeing how this cute little hippie top looked. This is made of such a comfy material that I really didn't want to take it off.
(Addyson Ivory Tunic $42)
**********

I love my day job. It keeps me up to date on all the latest styles and fashions, while allowing me to create my own. I love color and comfort, and have found both in all of these outfits. Humanité is such a find for Bryson City, visitors and locals alike.

Check out more outfits put together by Erin on her blog!

Light at the End of the Tunnel

Aj and I drove Bob down the road to nowhere, which ends at a tunnel. While walking through we were wondering who cares for the tunnel, being that it isn't a road. I mean, is it maintained? The forest service? The NCDOT? Anyone? Bueller? What caused us to ponder this were the massive cracks that I had never noticed until taking a camera with a flash in there. Water was coming through in several places. It's a little scary when you think of how much earth is piled on top of that tunnel. It goes right under a mountain. Regardless, we still meandered to the other side, enjoying each others company and the lack of more pressing matters.

You can start to see some of the cracks to the left.

This was my best photo of the vandalism. My good friend, Ben King, has taken some excellent shots of the graffiti in the tunnel. They are posted on his blog for your viewing pleasure.

home garden

Aj and I love gardening. We started the Grove Community Garden here in Bryson City in 2009. But even with the big garden there, nothing beats being able to walk out into your own backyard for some dinner fixin's. We moved into a new place in March. The yard is a little smaller than we are used to, but we have really made the most of it.

Aj preparing a raised bed.

Here are some of the tasty things that the raised bed has produced. Thank you God for our capability, as humans, to grow and make everything we need to survive.

A healthy cabbage plant.

The Cherokee Purple is our favorite tomato variety. It is full of flavor and is less acidic than other varieties.

Ready to make a tasty salad.

A wonderful gift from Donna & Sherry at The Chocolate Shoppe! We love those ladies!

We have also added beans and okra to the flower beds in the front yard. We are trying to use any space available. More gardening adventures coming soon!!

HAPPY PLANTING!

Daisy, Daisy......

"Give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage, but you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two."

A flashback moment from my childhood and suddenly I'm sitting in the grass making daisy chains, which is always what we called them regardless of the fact that we were using clover flowers and not daisies. It's nice not to care that your thumbnail will be green from making the hole in the stem to slide the next stem through. It's nice not to care that I will probably itch from sitting in the grass. It's nice not to care about what others will think of me, a 31 year old woman sitting there making a crown of flowers for myself.

.........and all the while wondering how the flowers keep blooming without mama here. Maybe she's in the flowers now. I can still hear her telling me to leave some flowers for others to enjoy.
