Firetower Revisited

One of my favorite close/short hikes is the forest service road from Tellico Gap to the Wesser Bald Firetower. This past fall Aj and I had the grand opportunity to do the hike and a night of camping with our dear friend Ben King. Between the three of us, we ended up with some really great pictures. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. If you like what you see, I'll be glad to tell you how to get there!

Sometimes you have to climb trees to get good pictures.

New Old Times

the guitar plays on
with an ever changing melody
and lost songs become newly found treasures

old time hearts
beating to strangely syncopated old time rhythms

strings plucked on instruments made before i was born
songs written in the good old days of prohibition
and rolling up the carpet before cutting the rug

barn raising and howling at the full moon
even more georgia than i am

these are notes that make the cats meow

More words from deep inside somewhere..........

looking into the strangest places expecting not to see the same old thing
starring into familiar faces wonder if there are angels without wings
where are your wings

given the time and place.....i could
it's never the time or place....i should
and if i knew that you were watching and may be impressed.....i would

tend to the guests most of all they say
tend to the guests most of all they say

A short thought after a long break.....

when will it stop for me
when will it start for you
the days and hours are long and moments stretch out

what was it that you said
as i was trying laughter
when will the sound of my smile stop bringing you down

tired of being a speed bump in society's highway
passed by given fingers no regard for the dreamer
pointed to the back of the line like cattle in a pen
my fake smile won't cover up my patience wearing thin

if i could put time in a bottle the way Simon & Garfunkel did
then i would flip over the hour glass and pretend that we didn't exsist
if patience is a virtue well it's one that i just didn't get
if money could buy love i'd sell it and be rich

why does it happen that you're always lost in sadness
can't you take my line and pull yourself out
i've never seen you smile without the pain behind it
when will the sound of my voice stop bringing you down

one day will be our day out of all the others
364 that won't go our way
what was it that you said as i was counting hours
only to find out we're quickly running out
